RYAN BANCROFT WINS
SCHOOL’S OUT REGATTA

Ryan Wins!
Ryan Bancroft and Gilbert Maclachlan racing Throw Down, sailed in the J-22 class at Pontchartrain Yacht Clubs School’s Out Regatta this past weekend. In this very competitive six-boat fleet, Throw Down had finishes of 1-2-1-3-1-1 to dominate this class. Ryan said his crew work was near perfect, tactics were on the money and there down wind boat speed was great. Saturday’s conditions were sailed in 8-10 knots of breeze and Throw Down was able to jump out to an early 3-point lead on nearest competitor Huey Kliebert. At several upwind mark roundings, Throw Down rounded in the middle of the pack. They were often the first boat to jibe, or the only boat to jibe-set, which allowed for an easy passing lane which lead to their exceptional finishes. On Sunday, the breeze piped in around 14-16 knots and Ryan was able to put the nails in the coffin with two more first place finishes.

Pontchartrain Yacht Club’s Gene Waneless preformed flawless race committee work and set perfect courses with square beats in every race. As far as hospitality, Pontchartrain Yacht Club has raised the bar! Their members offered to deliver boats from the south shore, step masts for anyone coming to the regatta, threw a great party, had nice gear bags for trophies and served lunch on the water to the competitors (Gilbert’s favorite part of weekend).

Congratulations to the Throw Down crew! With this victory in hand, please feel free to skip next Wednesdays twilight race.
