A sailor, a friend, a leader and an all around wonderful person has gone to a better place. At age 57, Ben recently passed after suffering a heart related problem during a fishing trip in South Louisiana. Commodore Ben Fontaine did so much for our yacht club over the many years of his membership that it is immeasurable. He trained many young and some older sailors and leaves a wonderful legacy to sailing and the New Orleans Yacht Club. Ben is survived by wife Joan and children; Laura, Nathan & Christian. He was an avid sailor and co/owner of Easterly 30 Pompano with his good friend Karl Hudson. He tried so hard to help society in general through the American Lung Association that his compassion was obvious to all who met him. Ben’s friendship, easy going attitude, warm smile and kindness will surely be missed by all.
