2   Rules

This regatta will be governed by the 2009-2012 Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS)), Prescriptions of US Sailing, GYA Rules for Capdevielle Events, Class Rules and GYA PHRF rules. The Mardi Gras Race Week Sailing Instructions (SI’s) shall govern in the event of conflict. Sailing Instructions will be available at the skippers meeting.

4   Registration

Registration must be completed (Entry Form filed and payment submitted) 30 minutes prior to the skipper's meeting. No registration will be accepted on the water. Those boats not registered will not be scored. Registration may be completed during any Registration Period prior to that boat’s Skippers Meeting. You may register on-line at mardigrasraceweek.org, by phone (504) 283-2581, by mail, email or in person. The MGRW Committee requests that skippers register early so that trophies and merchandise items may be ordered and engraved well in advance of the regatta.

Entries can be made online or should be mailed to: Mardi Gras Race Week Committee C/O NOYC 403 N Roadway Drive, New Orleans, La 70124. Email/CC registration is available immediately by contacting buzzy [at] noyc [dot] org.

All skippers are encouraged to register online at mardigrasraceweek.org. Secure payment can be submitted through the website as well.

Registration fee includes a welcome packet for the skipper including a continental breakfast on race days, access to all events, open food buffets and Saturday evening Krewe of Wrex Mardi Gras ball with live music.

Notice – The regatta classic wristbands WILL NOT BE USED. MGRW has determined they are more trouble than they are worth, and all skippers, crew, and guests are welcome to attend all events.

9   Number of Races

GYA Capdevielle – 5 Races will be scheduled in accordance with the Optional Alternate Format as described in Appendix G of the GYA Regulations for Sanctioned Events.

For all other One Design/Sport/Multi classes – Minimum 1 race constitute a series, with as many races attempted as possible at the discretion of the Race Committee or unless otherwise noted. No warning signals after 1630hrs on Saturday 2/20. No warning signals after 1330hrs on Sunday 2/21

10   Scoring

For all classes – The RRS Low Point System (RRS A4) shall be used. If less than 5 races are finished there will be no throw-outs. If 5 or more races are finished there shall be 1 throw-out.

This changes RRS A2.

11   Prizes

Daily prizes will be awarded according to the number of boats in the class. If three or fewer boats race then only a 1st place trophy shall be awarded. If 4-6 boats race then a 1st and 2nd place trophy will be awarded. If 7 or more boats race then 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies will be awarded.

Overall Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd for each class. Overall Prizes will be awarded on the last day of racing for all remaining classes at the After Race Party.

Krewe of Wrex awards will be awarded on Saturday evening.

Capdevielle Prizes will be awarded according to GYA Guidelines.

The Mardi Gras Race Week Perpetual Trophy is awarded to the overall regatta winner of the largest participating one design class.

12   Skipper's Meeting

The Skipper’s Meetings will be held at New Orleans Yacht Club at which time Sailing Instructions will be distributed to the entrants. A representative of each boat shall attend this meeting. All crewmembers are encouraged to attend the meeting.

13   Disclaimer of Liability

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS rule 4, Decision to Race. The organizing authority will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury or death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta.

14   Racing Area

The racing area will be located on the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain near the Municipal Yacht Harbor.
